Located north of Central Park, Harlem has long had a sulphurous reputation. However, things have changed a lot! To discover the history of Harlem and not miss anything about the neighborhood, make an appointment with your French-speaking guide. It will give you all the keys to understanding this great neighborhood.
A visit to Harlem will allow you to discover a completely different side of Manhattan, because, yes, Harlem is indeed in Manhattan!
Since the beginning of the 20th century, Harlem has marked the heart of the African American community, with a tremendous intellectual and artistic effervescence. Unfortunately, the neighborhood experienced difficult hours, especially during race riots in the 1960s. Harlem even recorded record crime in the 1970s and 1980s...
But today, the neighborhood has changed considerably. You will discover North Harlem as well as the neighborhood of Washington Heights that is now Latin. Between small architectural gems and the history of the Harlem Renaissance, this visit will change your mind.
Finally, if you decide to schedule this visit on a Sunday, we suggest that you end the visit with a traditional Gospel mass among the faithful. We will then leave you in front of a church selected for its fervour and its friendly atmosphere. After mass, why not try the famous Soul Food, the typical cuisine of the neighborhood
?The price includes: the guided tour with your French-speaking guide and a map of the neighborhood with our best addresses. Note that the price does not include the $10 donation per adult required for the church.
Please note that a minimum of 4 people is required to ensure the tour
Walking shoes, camera and your good mood!
Meet in front of the charming little Colombian café Salento. It is located at the corner of 165th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Get there by taxi or public transport. The fastest subway line from Times Square is the blue A Express line at 168th Street. Take some time out even if it means having a good coffee before the start of the visit.
