Enjoy a fun evening of Folklore at a Typical Madeira Restaurant with the Madeira Typical espetada
Espetada is a four foot skewer of Chicken or Tender Cubes of Beef, rubbed in rock salt and marinated in garlic and bay leaves, cooked over a wooden fire, accompanied by deep fried maize or cornmeal flour mixed with lard, water and herbs. It is cut into cubes and deep fried, potatoes, mixed salad and a basket of fresh homemade bread, spread with or without garlic butter all warmed in the oven – a delicious accompaniment.

During dinner, sitting on long rows of tables, you will be entertained with a Live Performance of Madeira Folklore Dancers – Madeira’s Traditional Dance, reflects the burdens of rural patterns of work, the carrier’s dance. The dancers bend beneath the weight of imaginary stacks of sugar cane, or baskets of bananas, carried along the islands steep paths, or the rhythmic stamping of the dancers feet reflects the custom of crushing grapes for wine with bare feet. Some of the dances, back to the time of Moorish slavery and others, where introduced to the island by immigrants from the north of Portugal. After dinner the Folklore dancers encourage people to come on to the stage and join in the performance.
