Levada da Referta is an easy and flat hike, so it does not present significant difficulties.
This pleasant tour is located in Porto da Cruz, which is located in the northern part of Madeira Island. We started our trip at a place called Referta and walked towards Castelejo
.On this walk we will observe the local crops cultivated for self-support. We will be able to see a variety of vegetable plantations and also some
fruit trees.Also visible are the sugar cane plantations, which were and still are very important for the parish. Sugarcane has been cultivated here since the beginning of the settlement. The canes are transformed into Aguardente (white rum), which is then used in the typical drink known as
Poncha.At the end of the tour, we can also see some vineyards, responsible for the production of the famous American wine.
Along the way, we have stunning views of the North Sea, Porto da Cruz and the spectacular rock formation of Penha d'Águia. This imposing rock emerges from the ground 590 meters high.
