The Levada dos Prazeres — Ponta do Pargo tour is a pleasant Levada ride that begins in Prazeres, which is located in the southwestern part of the island. We started walking west as we passed Raposeira, then we arrived at Fajã da Ovelha and continued walking towards Ponta do Pargo
.The walk is flat and fairly easy throughout its length. The fact that it is located in the South zone and at an altitude of only 600 meters above sea level, makes this a suitable tour all year round.
On the first section of the tour, we have stunning views of the fishing village of Paúl do Mar.
Along the way, we can see some houses and observe local people tending to their agricultural fields and farm animals. In this fertile land we will find potato, sweet potato and green bean crops. Fruit trees such as fig, papaya, lemon and apple trees also flourish here
.After a while, the scenery begins to change to more lush vegetation, where we will find large trees, such as pine and eucalyptus, which serve as a means of rapid reforestation.
In the wetter part of this valley it is also possible to find some species belonging to the Laurissilva Forest, such as the Canary Island Laurel and the endemic Laurel trees.
