Duration: 8 hours
Go West is the most popular trip among first-time visitors. This tour was designed to show the best highlights of the Northwest of the Island
.We continued to the Cabo Girão viewpoint. It is the highest sea cliff in Europe (and the second highest in the world) at 580 meters. On the edge, there is a suspended glass platform. This runway is a perfect spot for photos. Even if you don't feel comfortable enough to stand on the glass, you can still enjoy the surrounding views of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal
.Along the coast we arrive at Ribeira Brava, its name means “wild river”, deriving from the current of water that crosses the village. You can visit the local church, built in the 15th century. Behind the church is the Town Hall, surrounded by well-kept gardens
.In the same area there is the Municipal Market where you can buy fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, handicrafts and much more. You'll see several clothing and shoe stores, cafés, and restaurants on the main road
. Incontrast to the previous stops, we drove up to 1300-1500 meters above sea level. The Paúl da Serra plateau is the flattest area on the entire island. It is also where some of the most beautiful Levadas tours are located. You'll see stunning views of verdant valleys and mountains
.At lunchtime we arrived at a seaside village in the North of the Island. Porto Moniz is famous for its natural pools formed many years ago by volcanic lava and filled with seawater.
It's lunchtime, so we stayed in Porto Moniz for about 90 minutes. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. If you wish, you can enter the pools to swim.
After lunch, we head to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Madeira. This viewpoint overlooks the Véu da Noiva waterfall. The waterfalls descend from 30 meters high to the Atlantic Ocean
.The next stop is the town of São Vicente. You'll be between the mountains and the ocean. On the main road, next to the sea, you will find several cafés, restaurants and little shops. You can also visit the church, which has an eclectic building dating from 1692, with a simple façade
and a Mannerist portal. Then we went to the Encumeado viewpoint at 1007 meters. It offers stunning views from both the North and South sides of Madeira
