We will pick you up at the hotel and head toCabo Girão, a viewpoint 580 meters high and equipped with a glass balcony. This viewpoint is famous for being located on thehighest cliff in Europeand the second highest in the world. You will be enchanted!
Along the coast of the island, we will reach the village ofRibeira Brava. Here we will visit a church dating back to the 15th century before continuing to Madalena do Mar, where we will cross verdant banana plantations.
Next, we will crossPaúl de Serraand we will see several irrigation channels that connect different points of the island with the Laurissilva forest and we will stop atBelvedere Fonte do Bispo.
At this point, we will make a short stop of an hour and a half to allow you to have lunch independently and spend some free time in the coastal city ofPorto Moniz. Did you know that it houses the largestnatural volcanic pools in Madeira? You can also take the opportunity to take a dip or relax on the beach.
Afterwards, we will head toSeixal. Along the way, we will pass in front of several waterfalls, in particular the famous and impressive Bride's Veil. Get your camera ready!
Finally, we will visit the picturesque village ofSão Vicente, where we will visit a beautiful church dating back to the 17th century, before returning to Funchal.
During the return journey we will stop at our last stop, namelyChamber of Lobos,one of Winston Churchill's favorite places to paint. After the visit, we will return to Funchal, where we will leave you at your hotel to rest until the next day.
After having breakfast at the hotel, we will reach one ofmost suggestive places on the island of Madeira, laStatue of Christ the King of Garajau. Doesn't it remind you of the Christ the Redeemer monument in Rio de Janeiro?
Next, we will go to the historic city ofMachico, the second most populated on the island. Did you know that it was the first capital of Madeira between 1440 and 1496 under the command of Tristan Vaz Teixeir? Here, we will stop at the Miradouro de Machico to observe a beautiful panoramic view of the bay.
Crossing the Ponta de São Lourenço nature reserve, we will arrive in Porto da Cruz, where we will visit an ancient rum distillery that testifies to the importance of sugar cane for Madeira. Inside, we will see the old steam engines at full capacity and we will observe the work of the workers, who are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the equipment.
Afterwards, we will continue to discover the history of sugar cane cultivation in Madeira by making a short stop at Faialand to the water mills used for grinding, whose ruins are still visible.
We will then reach the northeastern coast of Madeira, known for its colorful triangular houses with thatched roofs. Here, you will have an hour and a half of free time to have lunch and visit the village of Santana, a perfect combination of more breathtaking views and authentic Madeiran culture. It is even said that this region of the island has something magical... We'll find out!
Once refreshed, we will be back on our way toRibeiro Frio Natural Park, famous for its fascinating and quiet trails surrounded by mountains and for its native fauna. Sharpen your eyes for theFiorrancino di Madeira!
Before returning to Funchal, we will conclude the day with a visit to thePico do Arieiro, one of the most visited natural places on the island where we will enjoy breathtaking views as far as the eye can see.
